Artist Connection with their fans
Social has been playing a huge roll for our fans and artist interaction. I can remember when I was young Myspace as the place to attempt to get a chance to speak to your favorite artist. The only thing was is that their inbox would get filled so fast that it made it hard for them to speak back with us fans. As any fans would have wanted to figure out of course is how in the world could you get through to them. It wasn't until the expansion and integration of social media did this start to happen. People began using apps such as Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat. Would this did was not only bring in more revenue for the artist but it enable fans to feels more appreciated and loved for their support. Also this enabled fans to get a more inside edition of what their favorite artist go through on a daily bases. Because in the superstar lie people tend to forget that their favorite artist are just regular people like themselves. As this continued to prevalent in our communities their have been stories of fans being able to meet their favorite stars behind the scenes, whether it's been surprise events, back stage passes or for some people dates. Social media has really changed the games. Lets take Instagram, artist can now post throughout the day pictures of what happened at their shows and where it was. This can set them up for success for their next show. They can provide links to their merchandise. Unlike in SnapChat you can see some of the more raw footage of your favorite artist before the set or at their own family events. I believe this is also the reason why artist income has risen for a lot of artist although the can be a counter argument for free music that has been downloaded because of the internet. The interactions that fans get from their idols can sometimes change a person especially when they look up to you. It gets to the point to where it seems as if the artist because a semi-god.

It was really interesting reading this blog since it is such a big part of social media now. I think the fact that social media is so broad and open that it helps fans connect with their favorite artists. I know a lot of people that have connected with their favorites but just a simple like or retweet that it makes them feel so special. I also think that by connecting to their fans on social media it shows other people who might not like them that they are actually genuine people and they care about their fans. I also think its gives smaller artists more exposure to get their name out and become bigger. Overall I think social media is good for artists and other famous people because they can connect and give back to their fans.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading about this topic because social media has allowed everyone to follow what their favorite people do and comment. While the celebrity may never get back to you since they get thousands of notifications (unless they disable them, which they most likely do), it creates this term called a "parasocial relationship," which I first learned in my media effects course last year. The idea of it is that the person believes they share a bond with the other person (i.e., a celebrity) when the latter doesn't even know the other exists. The way fans interact with celebrities can vary, some as you shown, can be off the rails, while the others are more realistic and supportive on each social media platform.
ReplyDeleteIn my own experiences, I have never done a lot of commenting/replying to posts from the celebrities I follow as I am more prone to simply leaving a like and scrolling along after reading what they have posted. I mostly follow wrestlers, journalists, musicians, professional eSport players, and others. For me, it also depends on how big they are in their respectful industry. However, it is always great when they take time out of their day and read through what their fans say and do brief threads showcasing their favorite comments from fans (mostly called "fan appreciation," I've seen a lot of wrestlers do this on Instagram via their story).
Really enjoyable topic you chose to cover! Great work!
